Scott O'Neil and the Rosetta Music Society: Bach's 'A Musical Offering'

  • Lone Tree Arts Center 10075 Commons Street Lone Tree, CO, 80124 United States (map)

In 1747, J. S. Bach visited his son Carl Philip Emmanuel, Court Composer to the Prussian ruler, Frederick the Great. While there, Frederick summoned him to court and challenged him to improvise a fugue on a theme contrived by Frederick himself. Bach’s response became the basis of what we now know as “A Musical Offering.” In this performance, O’Neil and the Rosetta Music Society explore this fugue, as well as other great fugues and canons by Bach.
